Open Graph Preview

Preview how your link looks when shared on WhatsApp, Facebook, or X.

16:9

Why does an Open Graph preview matter before you share on social?

When your link gets shared on WhatsApp, Facebook, or X, what shows up (title, description, image) is controlled by the Open Graph tags on your page — not pulled automatically from the page content. If those tags are missing or wrong, the link can show up with no image or with irrelevant text, and that immediately hurts people's willingness to click.

Questions about the Open Graph Preview

What's the ideal size for an og:image?

A 1.91:1 ratio at a minimum of 1200x630 pixels — that's what Facebook and most other platforms recommend so the image never gets cropped oddly.

Why isn't my WhatsApp/Facebook preview updating even though I changed the tags?

Those platforms cache the result of their previous crawl. You need to force a cache refresh through each platform's own tool (e.g. Facebook's Sharing Debugger).

Does og:image need to be different from the main article image?

It doesn't have to be — reusing it is fine, as long as the ratio and size are correct so it doesn't crop awkwardly when shown as a card.

Do I need a separate tag for X (Twitter) too?

If there's no dedicated twitter: tag, X automatically falls back to the regular Open Graph tags — so it's not required, but you can add one for finer control.
